About the word list
Dictionary and Word List
Here is how Word Puzzle Solver builds the word list behind every tool, and why results are great for getting unstuck but may not match the official dictionary of any specific game.
A broad English word list
The tools search a broad English word list of well over two hundred thousand entries. It is filtered to lowercase A–Z words, so proper nouns, abbreviations with punctuation, and non-letter characters are left out. The list includes both common everyday words and obscure or archaic words, which is why a search can sometimes return words you have never seen before.
Curated puzzle-word additions
On top of the broad list, we add a small set of curated words that players commonly expect in word games — especially short two-letter plays like qi or za that the source list may omit. We may continue to add curated puzzle words manually over time.
These additions are general puzzle help. They are not claimed to be valid in any particular game.
Results are not official rulings
Word Puzzle Solver is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Scrabble, Words With Friends, Wordle, The New York Times, Hasbro, Zynga, or any crossword publisher. Results are not official rulings for any of those games.
Different games use different official dictionaries, and a word that appears here may not be accepted in the game you are playing — and vice versa. If it matters, please check the rules and the official dictionary of your game before relying on a word.
Coverage may improve over time
The word list is a starting point for launch, not a final answer. We expect to expand coverage, refine the list, and add more curated puzzle words as the site grows. If you spot a missing word or one that looks wrong, the contact page explains how to let us know.
